As a Bristol-based business, it’s only fitting for our team to support and make an active contribution to local projects. The entire team shares a belief in team sports and getting outdoors, so it was a no-brainer for us to pick community projects where we could physically do something.
From tough-going bike rides to sponsoring local athletes, our initiatives have helped sow the seeds of change in the local community.
We were one of the first sponsors of the Bristol Sport Foundation, and we still support their work to this day. They use the power of sport to create active, healthy and happy communities in Greater Bristol by breaking down barriers and bringing about real, tangible changes.
The foundation hosts an annual Break the Cycle cycling event, and over the past decade, we have sponsored events and taken part in key activities. We have raised funds through team challenges involving staff members counting their steps taken and miles cycled over a month. We contributed £1 for every 10,000 steps or each mile cycled.
The Bristol Bears Foundation runs Bear in Mind, a health and wellbeing programme aimed at equipping girls in secondary education with the tools to build self-confidence and cope with the wider issues faced by young women across modern society.
Recently, two members of our team, Izzy and Kane, went to the Oasis Academy in Brislington to take part in a session to listen to the girls’ stories and share their experiences with them.
The Bright Sparks programme is delivered across the whole academic year, and aims to best equip identified young people with the skills needed to succeed in school and in wider life.
We deliver lessons allowing the students to gain a better understanding of the importance of planning for the future, the value of committing to new opportunities, as well as tips for job applications and interviews. Alongside this, we have made much-needed financial contributions allowing the cost of the programme to be reduced for partner schools of the Bristol Bears community foundation.
